Over the course of the past few months I have been working on a dating site start-up project which is partnered with a shared database platform solution called DatingFactory. As a result I have been comparing affiliate marketing software for dating sites in order to make a determination on how to best integrate an affiliate program into a dating site which uses a shared members platform. In the process of doing this research it became clear to me that there were few articles or resources online about how to do this. That is the back story as far as how I came to research HasOffers, a leading solution to integrate an affiliate program into a dating site. Please also keep in mind this interview is just 1 of a series of 3 interviews which we had with the 3 leading affiliate program solutions for dating sites. As you’ll note in the interviews, rather than just focus on the technology differences we also posed our questions in such a way to get a feel for the companies who we are considering working with. We thought their take on dating industry trends would add to the discussion and offer more insights for anyone who may be considering starting an online dating business.
I would like to thank Patrick Hearron, Director of Sales with HasOffers for taking some time to visit with me and share some of his perspectives on the online dating industry as well as sharing more about what HasOffers is and what they offer. Below is the complete interview:
1. How did you get involved in the Online Dating Industry?
Working at HasOffers over the past 5 years has allowed me the opportunity to help literally 1000’s of performance based tracking programs. Through the course of business we have had a number of Dating Advertisers use HasOffers. These clients range form a new businesses starting an affiliate program or an established brand bringing a current affiliate program in-house. HasOffers performance tracking technology easily lends itself to online dating because we offer an accurate, robust, and easy to use software to help companies run their affiliate business.
2. What impact do you think Mobile Apps /Social Discovery Apps will have on the online dating industry?
Like everyone, I see that mobile is the future. The purpose of the dating industry is to connect people. At this point mobile is the most simple, straight forward way to do this. I think the major impact has already occurred. It is not what will happen. It has already happened. An advertiser can no longer think of their app as a secondary add-on to their desktop product. They need to develop a strategy for client acquisition for both mobile and web in the beginning and at product launch
3. Tell us more about your offering? What is on the horizon for your company? How can what your company is doing help dating site operators?
HasOffers is the premier software for consumers and networks to run a performance based affiliate program. We have a low barrier to get started, native to use, and offer wealth of features to target and track publishers on both web and mobile.
We can help dating site operators by providing them a platform to run their affiliate program using real-time tracking and analytics.
Our two products are
Mobile App Tracking http://
A tool for Mobile App companies to measure the value of their advertising partners. The core of MAT technology is an SDK that goes into an app that tells the App advertisers the source of their installs or in app events.
The Hasoffers product ( http://www.hasoffers.com/ ) which is the distribution tool for Advertiser to work directly with Affiliates and Publishers so that you can track on Web and Mobile. HasOffers also has a built-in invoicing system, automated fraud detection, and ad-server.
4. Do you feel online dating sites change the way people interact as far as dating goes? Or do you feel it’s merely a tool and society changes on it’s own.
I think that online dating allows people to have more options. Previous to technology you were limited to fall in love with the significant other that lived or worked closest do you. Now your options are endless. There are positives and negatives to this.
The positives being that you have more options and can to meet people pre-screened that meet your criteria for a potential mate.
The negative is that you may be less likely to give someone a chance that is outside your height, salary, or looks range.
Love is more than your ideals. Someone could miss out on great connection if they are not careful.
6. How is your software or program different from others? (Such as Cake / NATS?)
HasOffers is the only cloud based application so we are more reliable and scale-able then a number of products out there relying on a single server setups.
We have a built-in adserver for real-time targeting and A/B testing of creatives so our clients conversions rates tend to be better than platforms that do not target there ads. The application is built on top of an API which means that our clients can connect any third-party system to our platform seamlessly using API calls.
We also offer a 30 day free trial so that we can earn clients business. Other platforms charge a setup fee and to sign a contract just after a demo.
7. What changes do you see happening in the online dating industry as a whole?
Mentioned this before but mobile was huge this year. Apps like tinder also showed there is room for new products to emerge and win consumers.
8. Do you feel private label dating platforms operated by small niche operators will play a role in the future of online dating.
Yes, private label dating is going to continue to be viable business model for emerging companies in the future. The concern for most new sites is where to find users. It’s difficult for a new sites to compete with the budget and name recognition of some of the large players. Finding a niche then going after it is a great way to become successful and acquire consumers who look for specific attributes in a potential mate.
10. If you could change one thing about the dating industry tomorrow what would it be?
Transparency! Being honest with the number of members you have and who those members are is important. Take down the stock model photos and remove that inflated member numbers so that consumers know what your site really offers.
11. What is the single biggest challenge of operating a dating site?
Finding and retaining consumers. A good affiliate program on a reliable technology can help with this.
12. Do you feel the online dating industry needs more regulation?
If the industry can do a better job of self-regulating than there will be no need for outside oversight. Consumers reward honesty, if you offer a good product then regulation is not needed.
13. What’s missing in the world of online dating?
A dating site connecting CatFishhers with Catfishers.
Everyone would have a fake profile and never meet in person. 🙂
Once more I wanted to thank Mr. Hearron of HasOffers for taking the time to share more information about HasOffers and how their affiliate marketing software for dating sites can help grow your business, as well as some of his thoughts about trends in the online dating industry.
Lastly, I should also share that there is another shared database dating site platform besides DatingFactory that is also growing rapidly called WhiteLabelDating.com. We think that operators on both dating site platform will find this series of interviews insightful as would anyone building their own custom dating site from scratch. Affiliate marketing and having a successful affiliate program is a major component to any marketing plan for businesses in the online dating industry and being aware of the top software providers is a must.
Check back later this week for the remaining two interviews, in our series of three interviews with executives from all the leading providers of affiliate marketing software for dating sites.
