Online Dating Interviews – It’s 8 on Online Dating, Online Dating Industry Executive Interviews
This week we got a chance to catch up with Jessica Kohl, executive representative for WealthyMen.com. Here is what she had to share with us about the industry as a whole and the WealthyMen.com dating site.
1. How did you get involved in the Online Dating Industry?
My name is Jessica Kohl and I represent WealthyMen.com as well as a portfolio of several other successful online dating communities. I graduated with a degree in rhetoric and have a keen interest in social interaction and digital culture. I became involved in the online dating industry as an undergraduate student studying the interrelationships between people through technology and the changing rhetoric surrounding it. Thus, I have always been drawn to the fascinating world of online dating and pursued a career in it. Currently, my primary focus is Social Media Management of Online Dating Communities.
2. What impact do you think Mobile Apps /Social Discovery Apps will have on the online dating industry?
Mobile apps are affecting the dating industry as well as many others in very large ways. The ability for people to bring their online relationships with them throughout their everyday activity and receive messages in the moment rapidly increases the response time and interaction in the online dating world. With WealthyMen.com we are providing a service to users who do not have the privilege of time spent waiting for a response. Mobile Apps greatly increases the interaction quality of messages sent/received and catalyzes the relationships formed.
3. What is on the horizon for your dating site?
The world of matching wealthy men and beautiful women has become more mainstream and embraced by society. Our culture is realizing that these relationships are both loving, and successful for both parties. As more entertainment and media show the positive reality of this lifestyle more and more acceptance surrounds online matchmaking communities. At this point I can only see our brand expanding and contributing positive content to our culture.
4. Do you feel online dating sites change the way people interact as far as dating goes? Or do you feel it’s merely a tool and society changes on it’s own.
WealthyMen.com facilitates the interactions between successful men and beautiful women who may not otherwise have the chance to cross paths. So a man in a business suit may walk by a beautiful waitress and both will go unnoticed due to classism. WealthyMen removes the restraints of society in those terms so that anyone can find the person they are really looking for outside of the normal lifestyle constraints. This question is coming back to very Marshall McLuhan based principles of the medium and the message and is a difficult one to answer. Of course the method of communication will change the way people will interact and code their messages. People engage in a new set of norms and standards any time they chose a medium. That said, a person ultimately chooses how to represent themselves across that media. Fortunately we verify and approve profiles and photos on our site so the possibility of false representation is minimized.
5. Have you ever used a online dating site? If so which one?
I myself have engaged in almost all styles of online dating. I have gone on horrible dates and been swept away by millionaire men. On one in fact a man told me he would be bringing a surprise for me which turned out to be two babies, and he proceeded to call me mommy throughout the entire evening. With others I have fallen in love, suffered heart break, forged long term relationships, and life long friendships- all with people I would have never met otherwise.
6. What changes do you see happening in the online dating industry as a whole?
I see people becoming busier and the dating world adapting. More people are willing to go online because we are unable to foster those intimate connections in our daily life. The increase in mobile availability is moving the dating world into a sphere of 140 characters or less.
7. If you could change one thing about the dating industry tomorrow what would it be?
I would ask that online dating sites provide more to their users and provide them with the skills to forge lasting relationships. There seems to be a growing emphasis on categorization with algorithms being the basis of intimacy. If we become a society that only provides matches based on percentages of compatibility and computer generated likes and dislikes then we will no longer have the great inspirational romances and the passion of love grown out of difference.
8. What is the single biggest challenge of operating a dating site?
The biggest challenge with dating site operation is the public perception. It is only just beginning to become commonplace. Everyone wants to use a dating site or has a curiosity but no one wants to call it a “dating site”. Telling friends is like confessing a sin. Fortunately we are moving towards being an online community of successful singles rather than a ‘dating site’.
We’d like to thank Jessica Kohl for sitting down with us to share more about WealthyMen.com. For the record, DatingWebsiteReview.net has no affiliate relationship with WealthyMen.com. We have received only positive feeback about the site and this is why we approached this company to learn more about this dating site for the benefit of our readers.
